RP Darmstadt, the Regional Council of Darmstadt, offered licenses to Betsson and Betway, who will operate under the name Wegame, for online sports betting in Germany.
In addition to Betsson and Betway, three divisions of Tipico were given licenses at the same time. As of this moment, that brings the total number of licenses given towards online sports betting in Germany to 27.
The trading name Wegame consists of 7 brands: Betsafe, Betsson, Casinowinner, Guts, Rizk Sport, Schnellwetten, and Nordicbet. You can expect online sports betting opportunities to arise from all these brands in the future, though it may be unclear which one you’re using.
They could operate under Wegame, or the trading name could be used as a connection between all the brands to ensure customer retention and conversion. For example, a player using Betsson may be more willing to try out Nordicbet if they see it falls under the same trading name, Wegame.
In anticipation of receiving a license, Betway already partnered with SV Werder Bremen, Hertha BSC, and VfB Stuttgart. With these partnerships in place, Betway can instantly begin operating now that they are approved by RP Darmstadt.
In a statement from Anthony Werkman, Betway Group’s chief executive, he states “as a leading regulated online betting and gaming company, this gives us the transparency and security to cement our position as a responsible gaming provider in the German market.”
Other operators that have received licenses include Interwetten, Bet3000, Betclic, Betkick Sportwettenservice, Betago, GVC Holdings, Gauselmann Group, Novomatic, and Tipico.
