Sports betting provider and Daily Fantasy sports platform DraftKings is planning on expanding the services offered in its betting App. The new version of the app will include live streaming of the major professional and semiprofessional sports from world leagues.
The official launch of the streaming service came shortly after DraftKings announced the signing of an expansion deal, solidifying their partnership with the world-renowned data aggregator giant Sportradar.
Most like 50% of the world population, sports fans, and online betting customers have had to patiently wait for normal life to resume for the past 3 months. During this time, many people turned to other forms of betting as Pay N Play Casinos saw a 15% surge in organic visits during the months of March and April.
The global health crises caused by the Covid-19 virus has caused sports authorities in several countries to suspend or cancel certain major sporting events such as the Tokyo Olympic Games in Japan, or the French football league.
But, since mid-May, governments are implementing a gradual exit plan for the current lockdown in several European countries. The easing of restrictions prompted sports authorities to reconsider an early return of national competitions. As we have seen with the German Bundesliga which has officially resumed on May 16th, 2020, La Liga on June 12th, and the English Premier League which will resume on June 17th after almost 3 months of inactivity.
La Liga teams resuming the 2019 – 2020 season.
However, this new situation does not come without consequences. All games will be played behind closed doors. This spells a tremendous loss for the clubs and respective sponsors who turned to alternative sources of income to cover the losses. Selling the live streaming rights came as a natural choice, as the Bundesliga is the first major tournament to stream all games on DraftKings betting App.
Other brands such as 888 and Bet335, both operators of online Casinos and Sports betting platforms are among the pioneers of the In-App live streaming of sports events.
Seizing the opportunity, DraftKings’s plans to penetrate the live streaming market is laid out in different stages. According to the legal teams involved in the deal with Sportradar, US customers with a valid credit should be able to stream live sports events straight from the Application via the newly integrated interface.
The later stages of the expansion will see the inclusion of additional sports events and worldwide coverage of all major leagues, as governments have started to ease the restrictions related to the current health crisis.
Interviewed by the local press, Mr. Ezra Kucharz who is the Chief Business Officer of DraftKings commented:
Innovation and cutting-edge technology have always been our primary focus. It is an honor to provide new and improved products to our customers. That is one of the reasons why we chose to work with the best, and partner with Sportradar. We are going through difficult times, and to bring live entertainment to sports fans through our enhanced APP is overly exciting. With the new live streaming service, millions of fans will be closer than ever to the players and games they missed so dearly.
